Intégrer la biodiversité dans vos projets de construction et de rénovation

Une journée pour comprendre ce que la biodiversité change concrètement à un projet, de la conception à l'exploitation.

7 heures, 1 jour · No prerequisite · 880 € HT · On site or virtual classroom · Catalogue reference ENV34P

In brief

The course "Integrating biodiversity into construction and renovation projects" lasts 7 hours, that is one day.

The course "Integrating biodiversity into construction and renovation projects" has no entry requirement: no ecology degree, no prior experience.

It costs 880 € excluding tax and carries the catalogue reference ENV34P.

It is delivered with QUALITEL Formation, a Qualiopi-certified body, and is therefore eligible for funding by a French skills operator.

It is held on site or as a virtual classroom, in groups of 3 to 12.

It closes with a questionnaire assessing whether the learning objectives have been met.

It is designed by IRICE, which has operated the Effinature biodiversity certification scheme since 2009.

It covers biodiversity as applied to buildings: greening, embodied biodiversity, construction phase, operation, regulation and labels.

Who this training is for

You have an annual continuing professional development requirement.

Several professional bodies require their members to log a set number of hours each year, a proportion of which must be structured learning — a defined programme, a measurable duration, a certificate. The course "Integrating biodiversity into construction and renovation projects" provides 7 such hours and a named attendance certificate. Whether those hours count towards your own requirement is decided by your professional body, not by us.

You work on the built environment and were trained on natural habitats.

Ecology curricula are built around natural habitats and their survey. Buildings raise a different set of questions: embodied biodiversity, greening substrates and species selection, fauna features integrated into the fabric, soil protection during works, differentiated management after handover. This course covers that gap.

You are preparing for emerging reporting frameworks.

Organisations subject to European sustainability reporting, and those anticipating comparable frameworks elsewhere, need people who can read a biodiversity assessment and challenge it. That is a client-side competence, distinct from producing the ecological data itself.

You commission projects without being a specialist.

Client, architect, developer, local authority. You do not need to become an ecologist, but you do need to know what you are asking for, from whom, and how to check what you are given.

Detailed programme

Understanding biodiversity

Conservation issues, ecosystem services, ecological networks, drivers of decline, ordinary biodiversity and its functional role in cities.

What it changes for buildings

Sector impacts, and the notion of embodied biodiversity.

At design stage

Ecological survey, greening of the building fabric, species selection, fauna features, avoidance of hazards, soil protection, rainwater management.

During construction

Controlling impacts on site.

In operation

Differentiated management of green spaces, awareness among facility managers and occupants, urban agriculture.

Tools and frameworks

Avoid-reduce-offset sequence, French biodiversity law, protected sites, national biodiversity strategy. HQE and BREEAM certification, dedicated labels. Biomimicry and biophilia. Worked examples in new build and refurbishment.

Who designs this training

IRICE operates the Effinature biodiversity certification scheme, in place since 2009. The public register of certified operations lists 63 projects, of which 62 are certified.

The content of the course "Integrating biodiversity into construction and renovation projects" is designed and delivered by the IRICE specialists who assess the files and audit the projects. What the course conveys is not a theory about the evidence expected, it is the practice of those who examine it.

QUALITEL Formation, which handles registration and issues the certificate of attendance, is Qualiopi-certified by QUALIBAT, under number FP 2021/0027-5, valid until 29 mars 2027. In 2025, QUALITEL Formation trained 1 623 people, with a satisfaction score of 4,3 sur 5 and a recommendation score of 4,4 sur 5 (données 2025, périmètre global QUALITEL Formation).

What this training does not replace

One day does not replace an ecologist's training, which assumes a master's level degree and several years of field practice.

The course "Integrating biodiversity into construction and renovation projects" does not qualify you to guide a project towards certification. That is the purpose of the course "Becoming a Biodiversity Partner", to which it gives access.

It carries no equivalence with any professional status awarded outside France. Statuses such as Suitably Qualified Ecologist require a degree in ecology, several years of relevant experience and full membership of a recognised professional body. No automatic cross-border recognition exists, and an attendance certificate does not create one.

We claim no approval from third-party networks or bodies. What we publish are their own texts, with their source and date, alongside our programmes. The decision belongs to them, and we give you what you need to ask them.

Have your training funded

The training "Intégrer la biodiversité dans les projets de construction et de rénovation" is eligible for funding by your skills operator, because it is delivered with QUALITEL Formation, a Qualiopi-certified body.

  1. You pre-register.
  2. IRICE checks your prerequisites and passes the file on.
  3. QUALITEL Formation issues the quotation and the agreement.
  4. Your company files the funding request with its operator, before the training starts.

Depending on your collective agreement, this is most often Atlas for design offices, engineering and architecture practices, Constructys for construction companies, and Uniformation for social housing. Local authority staff come under the CNFPT.

Constructys requires a complete file at least fifteen days before the training starts, and does not process late files.

Funding, operator by operator

Getting your registration approved

In most cases the company decides and pays. Here is what makes the request easy to accept.

What it unlocks

A competence that can be evidenced in a technical submission, at the moment the environmental criterion becomes mandatory in every public contract.

What it secures

A team that knows what to ask an ecologist, what evidence it must produce, and at which stage of the project.

What it actually costs

880 € HT, 7 heures, 1 jour away from the office, and possible funding by the skills operator.

Subject: training request, biodiversity and construction projects

Hello,

I would like to attend the training "Intégrer la biodiversité dans les projets de construction et de rénovation", 7 heures, 1 jour, at 880 € HT.

Since 22 August 2026, every public contract must include an environmental award criterion. We will have to evidence a biodiversity competence in our technical submissions, and we have nothing to produce on that point today.

The training is delivered with QUALITEL Formation, a Qualiopi-certified body, so it is eligible for funding by our skills operator. The reference to quote on the file is ENV34P.

One scheduling constraint: the file must be submitted before the training starts, and at least fifteen days in advance for some operators.

I am available to discuss it.

Frequently asked questions

Will this course count towards my continuing professional development?
It provides 7 hours of structured learning and a named attendance certificate stating the programme and its duration. Whether those hours are accepted towards your own requirement is decided by your professional body. We publish the detailed programme so that you can put the question to them with the evidence in hand.
Does it grant a professional status such as Suitably Qualified Ecologist?
No, and we do not claim it does. Those statuses require a degree in ecology or a related discipline, a minimum period of relevant recent experience, and full membership of a recognised professional body. They are awarded by those bodies alone.
Is the course delivered in English?
Sessions are currently delivered in French. Get in touch about in-house delivery for an international team, and we will tell you what is possible rather than what would sound good.
I have no background in ecology. Will I be able to follow?
Yes. The course is designed for that and has no entry requirement. Groups are capped at twelve, which leaves room for questions.
How does this differ from Becoming a Biodiversity Partner?
This course provides reference points. "Becoming a Biodiversity Partner" leads to a qualification that allows you to guide projects towards Effinature certification and lists your name in a public directory. This course is a prerequisite for it if you hold no initial training in ecology.
Can my employer fund it?
If your organisation is subject to the French vocational training levy, yes: the course is eligible for funding by its skills operator. A message template for your management is provided on this page.
